Service Description
Saturday, May 14th, 2022 come to the newly established Woodcock Nature Preserve in Athens county and explore the recently developed trail system by running the FIRST annual Woodcock Community Run 5k/10k. The route will take you through forest, meadow, and orchard on gently rolling hills in the heart of historical Shawnee land. The meandering, well-marked trail, start to finish, is 3.2 miles. 10k runners will make two loops to complete the distance. If you want to run a third loop, go ahead, but that’s just showing off. Both races start at 9:00 am and have generous cut-off times (by “generous” I mean “I’m not leaving until everyone finishes”). Two aid stations are available on the course stocked with water and gatorade; one at the start/finish and one at the halfway point of the loop. Light snacks, congratulations, and ego stroking will be available at the finish. T-shirts are included with registration. Size is only guaranteed if registered BEFORE May 1st. After that, t-shirt is promised, but size is not. Cost is $25 for the 5k and $35 for the 10k and benefits the Woodcock Nature Preserve in it’s land management and stewardship efforts. Please consider donating to the preserve at either checkout or at packet pick-up, starting at 8:00 am, the day of the race. Want to volunteer? Of course you do. You’re a team player! Volunteers are needed to assist in parking, packet pick-up, and at aid stations, and will be given very yummy treats. If you have any questions or wish to volunteer, first look up a picture of a woodcock (they are adorable and silly), then contact Madalyne via email at yoginimadalyne@gmail.com
