EVERYTHING IS BETTER
IN HIKING BOOTS
Appalachian Understories provides natural and cultural tourism in Appalachian Ohio. We work with local guides, historians, interpreters, and naturalists to create bespoke outdoor experiences for participants as they connect with rich natural and cultural resources of the place we call home.
ABOUT US
Appalachian Understories is a Rural Action initiative proudly supported by Ohio's Winding Road.
Our tours and events lay the foundation for forming lasting connections to Appalachian Ohio rooted in appreciation for the area's rich natural and cultural resources.
These experiences draw upon the knowledge and passion of skilled locals who provide participants with experiences rooted in community and place.
By supporting local knowledge, Appalachian Understories helps to stimulate the local economy, strengthen our communities, and support our neighbors.

OUR TEAM
The local experts that work with Appalachian Understories are deeply committed to the region. Whether it be their passion for sharing the story of a oft-forgotten mining village or their dedication to teaching the intricacies of tracking through mixed-wood forests, they model what it means to share deep knowledge generously. We are proud to have these folks on our team.
